Characteristics of the Houses (Casas)

The project has been developed with the assessment of experts in rural architecture. Under their supervision two existing buildings have been restored and five more houses are built.

The buildings are made with the use of natural materials from the area such as granite, wood and iron. There has been an environmental approach to the architecture and installation of services. Therefore the countryside has been treated with respect and the buildings appear to be a natural part of the landscape.

These characteristics are endorsed by the environmental study of the project, carried out by experts from the firm , EYGEMA – Estudio y Gestion de Medio Ambiente – which includes on page three of the before-mentioned report the following paragraph:

“The project is in accordance with the legal premises laid down in the “Acta Única Europea”, the main aims of which are the following (art. 130 ss of the EU agreement):

• To conserve, protect and improve the quality of the environment
• To contribute towards the protection of public health
• To guarantee a prudent and rational use of natural resources...”

Although the houses are built and decorated in rustic style, in keeping with the typical houses of the Sierra, present technology has been included in their construction: hot water, central heating (in spite of the fact that all houses have a fireplace), double glazed windows and insulated walls and roofs.

Exposed wooden beams have been used in the house interiors, and authentic, old arabic tiles for the roofing.

The houses are authorised by the competent administrative organisations, especially by the Huelva Regional Office of Tourism in the classes of “Basica” (one house) and “Superior” (5 houses).

The houses are situated in wooded parts of the Finca and built at an adequate distance from each other, thus affording much valued privacy and a peaceful atmosphere, as a good rest in the country demands.
